In a building that requires two separate exits, the exits must be located to minimize the chance that a single emergency could make both exits inaccessible at the same time. What is a general rule of thumb to calculate the minimum distance between exits for an unsprinklered facility?
Answerd' (distance) must be at least 1/2 D (the diagonal measurement of the building or space served by the exits.)

Isn't this one 1/3 of the diagonal distance, not 1/2?
ReplyDeleteIf the building is sprinklered, then yes. If not, still 1/2. Although intended for nyc code specific issues, this nyc building department presentation has some good graphic illustrations of egress. www.nyc.gov/html/dob/downloads/pdf/means_of_egress_presentation.pdf
