What role does this term "clerk of the works" refer to? Where is this a more official term?

AnswerIn North America, clerk of the works is used to mean either the owner's inspector or owner's site representative. In the UK, this role is more officially defined in standard forms of contract from the Joint Contracts Tribunal.
