Shear Connectors

What are shear studs?

AnswerShear studs are used in stud welding to secure steel framed buildings to create a shear connection between the steel and the concrete, allowing transmission of forces from one to the other. In a typical application, concrete slab / steel beam composite sections are created by welding the connectors to the top of the steel beam (in shop) which becomes embedded in concrete when the slab is poured in forms (in field).
