Weld design

Which of the following is NOT an AISC requirement applicable to weld design?
A. Fillet weld length must not be less than 4 x the weld size + 0.25 inch allowance to start and stop the arc.
B. For 1/2 to 3/4 inch material thicknesses, minimum size of fillet weld is 0.25 inch
C. For less than or = 1/4 inch material thicknesses, maximum size of fillet weld is 0.125 inch
D. When intermittent welds are used, the welds must not be less than 1 1/2 inches in length.

C. is NOT an AISC requirement - For < or = 1/4 inch material thicknesses, the MAXIMUM fillet weld size is equal to the material, whereas the MINIMUM size is 0.125 inch.

Deflection: steel or wood

For EITHER steel or wood beams, a question that asks for the allowable deflection limit (maximum) for live loads only requires which of the following equations? A. L/240 B. L/360 C. ∆ = 5wl⁴ / 384EI D. ∆ = 5Wl³ / 384EI Answer B. L/360 or span in inches divided by 360.
