Reentrant corners

Overall building configurations in plan that assume L, T, U, H, + shapes, or a combination of these, contain reentrant corners. At these interior corners, where the projecting wing or leg is more than 15% of the plan dimension in a given direction, what two interrelated effects are possible?

AnswerStress and torsion. Differential movement of the legs creates stress concentrations at the notch of the reentrant corner and tends to rotate as the geometric centers of mass and rigidity do not correspond to the possible directions of seismic forces.
